About

Located in India’s capital city of New Delhi, Usha Exim is an Ethical
Fair Trade organization dedicated to producing beautiful goods for the global
market while upholding ethical and fair trade principles for every member of
their community. Usha prioritizes equity, fairness, justice, and accountability
for all stakeholders, including workers, artisans, producers, and buyers. 

After decades of advocating on behalf of people living in extreme poverty
and exploited laborers in India, Professor Shyam S. Sharma started Usha Exim as
a manifestation of his beliefs that every human deserves to work under
conditions that are safe, dignified, and respectful. In addition to creating
fair-wage jobs, Usha reinvests 5% of their profits back into their local
community through philanthropic efforts.

    In 2023, India surpassed China to become the most populous country in the
    world, with 1.4 billion people. Its people represent incredible cultural,
    linguistic, and religious diversity, as do the country’s 28 states. India has
    made great contributions to higher math, is the home of chess, and boasts the
    world's largest film industry (Bollywood). The country has a rich history of
    handcrafts dating back to 5000 BC, including techniques like weaving, pottery,
    jewelry-making, and metalworking.

  • Master Ji
    At age 15, Rajendra dropped out of school and moved to Delhi alone to look for an opportunity to support his family. He began working in tailoring and was eventually promoted to pattern-maker. After investing an extensive amount of time perfecting his craft, he earned the nickname Master Ji. In addition to his expertise, Master Ji is unending in his enthusiasm for learning. He embraces every opportunity to broaden his understanding. His dedication to learning and passion for his craft inspires everyone around him.
  • Rehana
    After 10th grade, Rehana was forced to drop out of school and accept an early marriage to help support her family. Life was not easy for her. Living in a rented house with her in-laws, husband, and two precious children, Rehana prayed for an opportunity to support her struggling family. Then, Rehana was hired as a tailor at Usha–and since then, she has become a pillar of strength and commitment. Her unyielding commitment is the heartbeat of her family's well-being, and a bright light in the Usha workshop.
